Usage: Procaine hydrochloride is a kind of local anesthetics, for local anesthesia, nerve block etc, can block the conduction of nerve fibers with anesthetic effect, strong function, low toxicity, and no addiction, but the skin, mucous membrane penetration force is weak, not suitable for surface anesthesia, clinically used to infiltration, spine and conduction anesthesia.

Brief introduction:

Procaine hydrochloride, also called Novocain, or Novocaine,  synthetic organic compound used in medicine as a local anesthetic. Introduced in 1905 under the trade name Novocaine, it became the first and best-known substitute for cocaine in local anesthesia. It can be used as Local or Regional Anesthesia, it is short-acting local anesthetic.

How is works?

Procaine HCl is used because of the unique quality which the molecule exhibits, of being able to transfer through the damaged membranes of pre-mature dying (diseased) cells. The procaine HCl increases the electrical potential of the plasma membrane and the other membranes of the cell as well as supplying nutrients that are essential to initiate repairs and life extension of the healthy cells.

Procaine Hydrochloride Usage: 

It is a white crystalline powder (trade name Ethocaine) administered near nerves as a local anesthetic in dentistry and medicine. Procaine HCI is an experimental, immune-modulating drug designed to reduce levels of the stress causing hormone called cortisol. 

The primary use for procaine is as a topical anaesthetic. Procaine is used less frequently today since more effective (andhypoallergenic) alternatives such as lidocaine (Xylocaine) exist. Like other local anesthetics (such as mepivacaine, andprilocaine), procaine is a vasodilator, and is often coadministered with epinephrine for the purpose of vasoconstriction. Vasoconstriction helps to reduce bleeding, increases the duration and quality of anesthesia, prevents the drug from reaching systemic circulation in large amounts, and overall reduces the amount of anesthetic required

Generally used in a 1 to 10 percent saline solution, procaine hydrochloride is administered by injection for infiltration (area flooding as in dental anesthesia), nerve-block, spinal, and caudal anesthesia. Unlike cocaine, procaine is not toxic, addicting, or irritating. It has been displaced somewhat by the chemically related drugs lidocaine and mepivacaine, which produce prompter, more intense anesthesia.
